Drury 24 Infill — Bridgeland-Riverside, Calgary

Set on one of the steepest lots along Drury Avenue, this home faces a slope that rises high at the rear and drops sharply toward the street. The grade made driveway access and retaining walls the central design challenges.

The residence is a two-storey with a full basement, carefully stepped to fit into the hillside. The garage sits slightly lowered to connect smoothly with the driveway, while the main living spaces open above to south-facing decks and views of downtown. Bedrooms are placed on the upper level, with recreation and guest space in the basement that walks out toward the yard.

The City initially resisted a front-drive garage on this block, but the design was approved after showing how pedestrian routes would be protected and frontage landscaping enhanced — a balance between access and livability.

Clad in Hardie panels, stone, and architectural metal, the Drury 24 Infill turns a difficult reverse-grade site into a home that feels anchored to the slope while opening wide to its urban views.
